How To Overcome Frustration

Overcome Frustration

To overcome frustration we need to know what it is. Frustration stems from expecting something to be different from what it is. The ego, thinking it is the source of all life, expects the world to look according to its own world-view. As I write about persistently, the ego (in a spiritual context) is a defence mechanism. Its primary objective is keeping itself alive – which is rooted in the evolutionary process.

3 Ways To Overcome Frustration

1) Understand The Root Of The Frustration (The Psychology)

The mind is a never-ending loop of thoughts, ideas, judgements and opinions.

Learn how the ego functions and where you are in terms of your own development. This will inevitably bring a sense of humility and understanding to why you feel the way you do – frustration or otherwise.

I suggest reading the work of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung.

2) Draw The Frustration As An Image

This is similar to active imagination. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t a perfect drawer. When I say draw the frustration, I mean to turn the energy of the frustration into a figure on a piece of paper.

By drawing the frustration and putting the image on paper, you are beginning to bring the energy of the frustration into the objective world. This is communicating with the unconscious parts of our psyche.

You can also have a conversation with it – see what works for you.

3) Stop ‘Doing’ Mid-Frustration

If there is an overwhelming feeling of frustration, stop doing everything. Put attention to the rousing energy and contemplate what has happened to activate energy movement.

Awareness like this is how we know ourselves. You’ll also tap into higher levels of consciousness the more understanding you have around your inner mechanics.

Emotions run most peoples lives. Becoming still is while emotions run rampant is the start of self-mastery.

The Benefits of Frustration

In the right situations, it is wise to use frustration as a signpost. Feeling frustrated can give someone an idea of where there ‘trigger points’ are. With the right attitude, these times provide ample opportunity for self-growth by becoming aware of inner conflicts.

Use frustration against itself. Frustration is born from egoic fragility. If you can use this frustration as signposts to bring inner peace, your higher self can employ the ego as a mechanism for healing. The reality is that the mind cannot overcome frustration because it is causing the frustration in the first place – It is like asking a car to fix itself. Higher levels of consciousness are needed to grasp the ego’s nature and become aware of awareness itself. Only then will you know frustration for what it is.
